Kanpur, Jul 20:  Captain Lakshmi Sehgal, a compatriot of Subhash Chandra Bose, who was admitted to hospital yesterday following a cardiac arrest, continues to be in “very critical” condition, family sources said today.

“Sehgal's condition is very critical. There has been no significant improvement,” Sehgal's daughter Subhashini Ali told reporters here.

“She is in the Intensive Care Unit(ICU) and is under observation by a team of doctors,” Ali said.  Sehgal (97), who had been ill for some time, was admitted to the hospital yesterday morning after she had suffered a heart attack at her residence in Civil Lines area here.

CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat and party Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat visited the hospital yesterday evening to enquire about her health.

Captain Lakshmi Sehgal was very active in India's independence movement and had commanded the ‘Rani of Jhansi Regiment' of INA, formed by Subhash Chandra Bose.
