Chennai: A senior professor of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras) has been suspended and evicted from his official quarters on the campus following a proven charge of sexual harassment of a young research scholar on an academic tour of Europe in September.
The incident took place when the research scholar accompanied the professor to Poland for a science conference.
Upon returning, the girl filed a formal complaint with the institution. She also supposedly approached the National Commission for Women (NCW) seeking action on her complaint.
The girl informed the college authorities that the professor asked her to share his hotel room, she accepted it with the knowledge of her mother and a friend, since she didn't find anything wrong in sharing a room in a city in southern Poland.
She alleged that she left the hotel after the professor tried to force himself on her at night.
