Revealed: RAW official dismissed intelligence input on IC-814 hijack days before

New Delhi: The sensational hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 to Kandahar in December 1999 is hard to forget.The hijacking exposed India as a soft state as the government swapped three terrorists-Maulana Masood Azhar, Ashfaq Ahmed Zargar alias Latram and Ahmed Omar Syed Sheikh, for the release of the hostages.Hijackers released 27 of 176 passengers in but fatally stabbed one and wounded several others.Now a former RAW officer RK Yadav has revealed that lives on board have been saved because a RAW officer in Kathmandu had generated an input that the flight could be hijacked days before its hijack but his superior did not believe him and allegedly failed to send it to the RAW headquarters. Yadav has revealed this in his book ‘Mission R&AW'.The book states that a junior RAW operative, UV Singh, informed his counselor at the Indian Embassy, that there was apprehension about hijacking of the plane by Pakistani terrorists but the counselor rebuked him and warned him not to spread rumours. This report was never sent to RAW headquarters .The book claims that Ironically, the day IC-814 was hijacked, this counselor was on board the flight.The book has also revealed, how the ‘Thuggi and Dacoity' Department created by the British in 1904 took the shape of Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) on September 21, 1968 which proved one of the most formidable intelligence agency of the world. Its founder R.N. Kao proved one of the most outstanding and legendary intelligence icon which has no parallel in the intelligence fraternity of the world. He outclassed Richard Helms of CIA and many other contemporaries of MI6 of Britain and Mossad of Israel while merging a territory of 3000 sq. miles of Sikkim within the Indian territory. There is no other example in the world intelligence as to how R&AW and its icon R.N. Kao carried out this task in the face of an imminent threat by China on its border. This book also reveals Kao's heroics in the liberation of Bangladesh which was also a monumental contribution.The book also explains how Article 370 was enacted for the ego problem of Sheikh Abdullah by Jawaharlal Nehru and how Sheikh betrayed him later and was arrested for treason by IB.
