Chandigarh, Sept 9 : Income Tax Department officials on Thursday evening began search and seizure operations at 24 premises of property dealers and builders, including Gaganjit Singh, the son of former Tamil Nadu governor and Akali Dal leader Surjit Singh Barnala.
Raids were conducted at the premises of a builder in chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur and large amount of unaccounted money seized, officials said.
The realtor targeted by I-T sleuths was identified as Manohar Singh. One of his business associates is Barnala's son Gaganjeet Singh.
N K Saini, director I-T investigations, supervised the searches while joint director Manjit Singh coordinated the operations.
"It is too early to reach any conclusion. Our officers are on the job. The operations are likely to be over by Friday evening. Gaganjeet Singh is one of the directors of a company associated with Manohar Singh," said an I-T department official.
Sources said over 150 Income Tax sleuths were involved in the search operation that began shortly after noon on Thursday, a Times of India report said.
