The Hyderabad Police on Sunday arrested Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad. A tweet from Azad's official handle informed about the arrest. Azad was attending a public meeting at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) at Abdullapurmet on Sunday. On the occasion of Republic Day, the Students' Union had organized a protest program against the amended Citizenship Act, National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Bheem Army's Azad was arrested by Hyderabad police after he tried to reach to Crystal garden meeting venue at Tolichowki. It is said that Prior Police permission was not taken by organisers for the meeting.
Azad was participating in a public meeting being organized by the All India Dalit Muslim Adivasi Progressive Front at Crystal Garden in Mehdipatnam.
According to Hyderabad Police, Chandrashekar Azad has been arrested ahead of his participation in a protest against CAA and NRC under Lungerhouse police station limits. The protesters didn’t have any police permission for the protest.
Earlier today, the Bhim Army Chief had tweeted that female students from TISS are being harassed at the Police station.
He said: "I am at TISS Hyderabad. Since last night, female students and sitting at a police station and they are being harassed. @rachakondacop should immediately come here otherwise we will surround the station."
