New Delhi: A businessman, his brother and son allegedly had hot oil and ghee poured on them and later got assaulted with glass bottles by a sweet-shop owner in the Roopnagar area in north Delhi on Saturday night, reports Times of India.

The attack — that stemmed from a petty argument over right of passage — took place around 8pm when the victims were returning to their D-167 residence in Kamla Nagar. A case of voluntarily causing hurt has been registered against the accused shopowner.

It all started when Naval Kishore Goyal (67) and his two sons — Pradeep (43) and Narendra (38) — while travelling in their Esteem car spotted some gas cylinders that were blocking the lane leading to their house.

Pradeep's son Tanuj (24) told Times City, ‘‘They asked the owner of the nearby sweet shop to clear the way, but he refused saying it was not his job. I heard the honking and came out. When we threatened the shopowner that we would click pictures of the blockade and report the matter to police, he got agitated and attacked us.''

Naval escaped unhurt while Pradeep, Narendra and Tanuj were rushed to Sant Permanand Hospital.

Pradeep, who is said to have suffered 40% burns, and Narendra, who was hit on the head, are said to be in a critical condition. Tanuj received a few stitches and is stable.

The victims own a manufacturing unit near Ghanta Ghar in west Delhi.

The cops said investigations are on and no arrests have been made so far. Cops said the shopowner got agitated when the four men started taking pictures of his shop.

‘‘Pradeep has told us that oil and ghee that was being heated was poured into a bucket by the shopowner after which he allegedly threw it at him.

Pradeep suffered burns on the face, chest, left hand and left thigh,'' said the officer who recorded the statement.

Following this,'' Tanuj alleged, ‘‘the accused turned his attention towards me and my uncle. We were attacked with a glass bottle. I managed to call the PCR. Even as the accused fled, I sent my father and uncle to hospital with a family member. The PCR van later took me to hospital.'' Doctors have kept the victims under observation for 48 hours.

‘‘We are corroborating the statements of the victims, shop staff and eyewitnesses. We might add more sections to the FIR,'' said additional DCP R K Jha.

Meanwhile, the sweet shop staff said their employer was ‘‘being unnecessarily dragged'' into the case.

‘‘There was an altercation over parking and the Goyals attacked us. Our employer was also injured as oil spilled over. We never attacked anyone,'' claimed one of the shop employees .
