New Delhi: Union Home Secretary L.C. Goyal met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday after the Supreme Court issued a notice to Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav on a plea concerning the forest guard recruitment scam.
Though there was no official word about the meeting, sources said the apex court notice to Yadav and the central government in the forest guard recruitment scam figured in the meeting.
Rajnath Singh is likely to meet President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday evening.
Yadav's son Shailesh Yadav, an accused in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or Vyapam scam, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in March at his father's residence in Lucknow. The Vyapam scam has created a massive political uproar, with over 40 deaths linked to it.
Bharatiya Janata Party leaders indicated on Thursday that the party would not defend Ram Naresh Yadav and he may have to resign.
"People occupying constitutional posts should introspect whether their actions are adding to the esteem of their office or not," BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli told IANS.
He said Yadav was appointed the governor by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government and he was considered close to the Congress leadership.
The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the central government, Madhya Pradesh government and Ram Naresh Yadav on a plea challenging the Madhya Pradesh High Court order quashing an FIR against Yadav for his alleged involvement in the forest guard recruitment scam on the ground that he enjoyed immunity of the constitutional office he was occupying.
