Home ministry asks states to buy own bullet-proof cars

New Delhi: With elections round the corner, demand for bullet-proof cars for campaign trail have been increasing. But for the much disappointment of the political leaders the home ministry has expressed its inability to provide

The demand was in view of an expected stepping up of the election campaign in the coming days by politicians.

With such cars hard to come by in election season, politicians are queuing up at private manufacturers to convert their SUVs and other vehicles into bulletproof ones.

Laggar Industries in Jalandhar in Punjab is a favourite destination.

The conversion work usually involves fitting 40 mm thick bullet-proof glass and 6 mm thick bulletproof steel plates to ensure the occupants can be protected from bullets fired by AK-47s and light machine guns.
