2) Cloud Burst in Uttarakhand A cloudburst hit Netad village in Tehri district, at about 2.30 AM, flooding the Ruis canal and flattening two houses. Five people including three women were buried alive in their sleep.
Bodies of all the people have been recovered while a search is on to trace three others who went missing after the incident.
3). Uttarakhand LandslidesOwing to heavy rainfall in the Garhwal Himalayas, incidents of landslides at several places have been reported. These landslides have blocked more than 150 key roads in Uttarakhand, among them those linking Rudraprayag to Kedarnath, Rishikesh to Gangotri and Rishikesh to Yamnotri.
The Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway, too, has been badly affected, forcing the state government to deploy a 400-member joint Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and PWD team to clear the roads of debris.
4) Glaciers melting in Himachal Pradesh In a serious threat to population living downstream, reports of melting of glaciers has been reported in Himachal Pradesh Six to seven large glacial lakes have formed near Neelkanth Lake in Lahaul and Spiti district of HP.
Besides nearby districts, parts of Jammu and Kashmir and areas in Pakistan located on the banks of Chenab river are also on high risk.
Fast melting glaciers have formed around eight glacial lakes on the trek leading to Neelkanth lake at 16,020.3 ft, said officials. The officials have warned that a breach in the lakes could flood the tributaries of Chenab.
