Bhubaneswar: A 22-page report on the Hirakud reservoir boat tragedy was today submitted to the Odisha government by the Revenue Divisional Commissioner of the northern division.
“I have submitted the administrative inquiry report on the boat tragedy at the Home Secretary's office today. The government has asked me to probe three angles—cause of the boat tragedy, the persons responsible for the accident and possible remedies to avoid such incidents in future,” RDC (northern division) P K Meherda told reporters here.
The report was based on depositions of 51 persons, including officials, along with Meherda's own observations and recommendations, sources said.
Thirty-one people died when the boat carrying about 135 people capsized on its way back from an island inside Hirakud reservoir.
Most of the deceased were members of a picnic party organised by Lions Club of Sambalpur at Marangdunguri in Hirakud.
A total of four persons, including president of the Lions Club, Sambalpur, have been arrested in connection with the mishap, police said.
