New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today dismissed a plea seeking direction to the city government to take immediate steps to prevent supply of adulterated milk in the capital and to not hike the price of milk further.

A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and R S Endlaw rejected social worker Sharad Tiwari's plea which had sought to constitute a monitoring committee to keep a watch on the cost of production of milk and its sale price.

“What is the basis of your petition, anyone can come to the court and say don't increase prices,” the court said.  The plea, filed through advocate Sugreev Dubey, had also sought to ensure that the profit on milk is fixed after comparing its cost and sale price to control the price.

It had sought a direction that Mother Dairy and the government should not hike the price more than once in two years.

“Over the last six years, the milk price has been increasing continuously and the government should be directed to fix the price of milk with reasonable profit to the traders,” the plea had said.

The petitioner had also said that government should prevent supply of synthetic milk or milk mixed with detergent in Delhi.
