Ralegan Siddhi (Maha), Sep 23: Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, seeking his views on key issues facing the nation, including those related to electoral reforms.
Talking to PTI today at his native village in Ahmednagar district, the Gandhian said the country wants to know what the PM thinks about major challenges facing our democracy and political system.
Issues like electoral reforms, right to recall and right to reject have been mentioned in the letter, Hazare said, adding he has requested Singh to clarify his views on these matters.
After ending his 12-day fast in Delhi for a strong Lokpal Bill last month, the veteran social activist had announced that he will now campaign for electoral reforms.
The 74-year-old activist said he will be writing to all Sarpanchs and Gram Panchayat members in Maharashtra to pass resolutions at their respective gram sabhas (village assembly) in support of the two issues - a strong Lokpal and appointment of an effective Lokayukta in his home state.
These resolutions should be sent respectively to Abhishek Singhvi, Chairman of Parliament's Standing Committee looking into the Lokpal issue, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, the Gandhian maintained.
Hazare asked his supporters to organise street corner meetings and hold discussions with NGOs, youth and other groups to create awareness about these two issues. PTI
