Bangalore, Dec 17 : Anna Hazare today voiced confidence that Lokpal Bill, once brought in Parliament, would be passed as it enjoyed sufficient support, but warned the government that a delay would invite another round of protest.

The anti-corruption activist, who is in the city for his “save lokayukta” campaign, said the prospect of an indefinite fast loomed if the government does not bring the bill in the Winter Session of Parliament.

“If Lokpal is not passed in Parliament, the fast scheduled for December 27 will begin and on January 1, we will carry out a ‘jail bharo' movement,” Hazare told reporters upon arrival.

However, he said there would be no need for the campaign if Parliament passes the bill.

He also expressed confidence that Parliament would pass the bill in the Winter Session, once it is brought in.

“If they bring the bill in Parliament, we don't need to fast, the bill will be passed in Parliament as a majority is in its favour, but they have to bring it first,” he said.  Asked to comment on the issue of reservation in Lokpal Bill, the 74-year-old Anna said, “It is for Parliament to decide.”

He also batted for the appointment of a Lokayukta in Karnataka to deal with corruption in the state.  Hazare would hold talks with several organisations ahead of addressing a public rally on the Lokayukta appointment issue, which has now turned into a battle of prestige between the BJP government and Governor H R Bhardwaj.

While the state government insists that Bhardwaj clear the name of former Kerala High Court Chief Justice S R Bannurmath, whom it has recommended, Bhardwaj has rejected the proposal in the wake of certain allegations against the former judge.

Former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde, a Team Anna member, is also participating in the rally.
