Chandigarh, May 9:  Elections of seven municipal corporations and two municipal committees in Haryana will be held on June 2, State Election Commission today said.  



Elections will be held in the municipal corporations of Ambala, Panchkula, Karnal, Panipat, Hisar, Rohtak and Yamuna Nagar and municipal committees of Kalanaur (Rohtak) and Farukh Nagar (Gurgaon).

Bye-elections in Ward 3 of Narwana municipal council in Jind district and Ward 7 of Gharaunda municipal committee in Karnal district will also be held on June 2, State Election Commissioner Dharam Vir said.

Model code of conduct in the areas where elections will be held, will come into force from today, he said.  No officials connected with election work will be transferred till completion of the election process, Vir said.  The State Election Commissioner said, Returning Officer will publish notice on May 10, inviting nominations from candidates and nominations can be filed in between May 16 and 21.

Nominations papers will be scrutinised from on May 22 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be May 23, he said adding that symbols will be alloted to candidates on May 23 after 3 pm and polling will be held on June 2 between 8 am and 5 pm.

Counting of votes for municipal committees will be held on June 2 itself, immediately after closing of polls and on June 4 for Municipal Corporations, he said.  Polls will be conducted with Electronic Voting Machines, Dharam Vir said.
