New Delhi: A teenage domestic help of a Haryana Minister's niece was raped and threatened allegedly by their driver, police said on Monday . Three bouncers were arrested on Sunday for allegedly threatening the victim though Sunil Kumar, the rape accused, has managed to evade arrest.
Sunil Kumar, the driver, allegedly raped the 17-year-old girl at the MLA flats in Gurgaon a few days ago and threatened her on Sunday in Vasant Vihar, where she was staying after the incident.
The girl was working as a domestic help at the house of Haryana minister of state for Home Gopal Kanda's niece in Janpratinidhi Apartments. The house where the relatives were staying belongs to a former Haryana MLA.
On August 27, the driver allegedly raped her and threatened her, a senior police official said. "The relatives of the minister were not at home when the incident took place. She was staying with a friend. Kumar got her to the flat on some pretext and allegedly raped her," the official said.
Soon after the incident, the official said, the girl left her workplace and started staying with one of her friends in Vasant Vihar. However, she did not reveal about the incident to anyone. On Sunday night, Kumar came to Vasant Vihar with his three friends who are bouncers and allegedly threatened her.
The victim's friend then called police who arrested Gautam (22), Sandeep (23) and Amardeep (24) from the spot. Kumar managed to escape, the official said. Delhi Police took the girl to a hospital for medical examination which confirmed rape.
A case of criminal intimidation and molestation was registered against the trio at Vasant Vihar police station n Delhi while a case of rape was lodged at DLF Police Station in Gurgaon against Kumar after Delhi Police informed them about the incident.
Gurgaon Police Commissioner S S Deswal said Gurgaon Police has asked their Delhi counterparts to provide the copy of the medical examination report. He said the victim's statement is being recorded. MOS Gopal Kanda claimed that he had transferred his car used by the driver in the name of his niece five years ago.
Meanwhile in Chandigarh, the Haryana Assembly on Monday witnessed bedlam over the gangrape, with the Opposition alleging that it belonged to Kanda.
The House was adjourned for over 30 minutes by Speaker Harmohinder Singh Chatha following the ruckus created by members belonging to both ruling Congress and opposition INLD over the alleged incident.
Soon after the Question Hour, acrimonious scenes were witnessed in the House with Congress and INLD members engaged in heated exchanges over the incident reported by some television news channels.
Some members of both the parties entered the well and challenged each other forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House for half-an-hour. Earlier, INLD members, led by former Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala, staged a brief walkout in the House over the issue.
Soon after the Question Hour, Chautala was on his feet saying "I came to know by watching certain electronic news channels that a girl was raped by few persons in a car which belonged to the Haryana Home Minister."
"The law and order has completely collapsed in the state," an agitated Chautala said. Kanda vehemently denied the charge that the car belonged to him. "I don't know the driver of the car and the persons involved in the crime," he said. The House witnessed pandemonium as a series of heated exchanges took place between INLD and Congress members.
Congress MLA Naresh Sharma and INLD's Bahadur Singh challenged each other to come out of the House to settle the matter. Intervening, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said "those guilty (behind the car incident) will not be spared."
"The matter is grave and it will be probed. The guilty will be punished," Hooda assured the House. However, Chautala demanded setting up of a committee of the House to probe the incident which was rejected by the Speaker.
Kanda then challenged Chautala "if the Registration Certificate (RC) of the car allegedly involved in the crime is in my name, I am prepared to resign. Otherwise, he should quit as a member of the House."PTI
