Ahmedabad: Gujarat government announced here yesterday that it would present a vote on account instead of the full budget this year, due to the Lok Sabha elections.
“During assembly elections, or Lok Sabha elections, it is common practice for state governments and even central government to propose vote on accounts.
The Gujarat government has decided to do it in view of the Lok Sabha elections,” Gujarat government spokesperson and finance minister Nitin Patel said.
The vote on account would be for financial provision of about four months, he said.
The vote on account comes at a time when Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who has been declared the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, is likely to be busy campaigning due to which he would not be able to attend a full budget session of 35 to 45 days.
The date of the Gujarat Assembly session are yet to be decided, but the session for vote on account could be for about seven to 10 days, sources in the state assembly said.
