Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court yesterday sought the state government's reply on not allocating land to 89 people of Chokdi in Chuda tehsil of Surendranagar district three years after an announcement at ‘Garib Kalyan Mela'.
The Mela (gathering) had been organised by the state government, targeting those living below the poverty line.
A division bench of Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B Pardiwala asked the state to file a reply within two weeks.
The order came on a PIL filed by Kanti Chavda who said officers had announced allocation of land for houses to 89 beneficiaries from Chokdi in the presence of the Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
'The order was issued on July 23, 2010 with a declaration that the beneficiaries have to construct a house on it within 3 years... but the procedure of providing possession of land was not started by the authorities,' the PIL says.
To an RTI query, the District Collector said no free plot had been allocated to anybody in the last five years, Chavda said.
