New Delhi, Aug 22 :Team Anna on Sunday night said Government has sent a “proposal” to Anna Hazare but there was nothing new in it.Government sources however said no proposal had been sent from their side.
Waving a sheet of paper at the Ramlila Maidan, Hazare's associate Arvind Kejriwal said the government has sent a proposal which, he said, has nothing new and none of the demands of the team has been met.
“We have received a proposal from the government which is nothing but the Government's Lokpal Bill. None of our demands has been included. There is no agreement between civil society and government,” he told Hazare's supporters. The paper containing the proposal displayed by Kejriwal ran into four pages appeared to be a gist of Government's Lokpal bill.
As a Indore-based spiritual leader Baiyujji Maharaj met Hazare and Union Minister Kapil Sibal in an attempt by Government to open back channels to defuse the crisis, Government sources said no one has been asked to mediate on the issue.
A top Maharashtra bureaucrat Umesh Chandra Sarangi also met the Gandhian thrice in the last 24 hours. The sources also dismissed reports suggesting that Government has sought four months time from Team Anna to work out a consensus on the Lokpal issue.
About the proposal, Team Anna member Kiran Bedi said an “unsigned and unstamped” letter was delivered by some people acting as “postmen”.“There is no way forward. We know what the government will say(on Lokpal),” she said. PTI
