New Delhi, Aug 21 : As Anna Hazare's fast entered sixth day today, his Team today accused the Government of not showing any concern for the health of the 73-year-old Gandhian and demanded “pro-active steps” to pass Jan Lokpal Bill in Parliament within the time “stipulated” by him.
“Anna has not eaten for six days but no one (in government) looks concerned. MPs and government should take pro-active steps to pass the Jan Lokpal bill in the stipulated time,” Hazare's close associate Kiran Bedi said.
Hazare had on Friday raised the political stakes by giving a deadline to the government to pass the Jan Lokpal bill by August 30 failing which he would continue his fast “till my last breath”.
Government and Team Anna yesterday spoke of the need for a dialogue on the Lokpal issue despite continuing rhetoric on both sides.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, speaking on the issue yesterday, had affirmed that there was “a lot of scope for give and take” and that government was open to “discussion and dialogue”.
Following Singh's comment, Arvind Kejriwal, who has emerged as a hardliner in the Anna camp, had said that they were ready for talks but asked “whom should we meet, where should we meet and when should we meet.” PTI
