New Delhi: Highlighting the BJP-led NDA government's commitment to improve road transport infrastructure in the country, Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, said that action against malpractices in the Regional Transport Offices (RTO) will be taken on a priority basis.
Gadkari said that cities with population above 10 lakh will have CCTV cameras at traffic signals to film offenders and notices will be automatically issued in 24 hours without the involvement of traffic police in the entire process.
The Minister, while speaking at an event organized in Mumbai on Sunday, also stressed on hybrid vehicles to curb pollution and said that his ministry will give priority to hybrid buses and cars and has asked Hindujas to launch an electric bus in India.
He also emphasized the importance of Mumbai in India's development saying there could be seaports, water ports and small jetties around the city as well as small seaplane services to nearby places.
He said for the last 15 years, there has been mere discussion about water transport in Mumbai, but nothing concrete had ever materialized.
