New Delhi: Internet giant Google is celebrating its 16th birth anniversary today with an animated doodle on its home page.
The animated doodle shows two of the letters ‘o' and ‘l' getting their heights measured on its wall.
Google was started as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1996. The site was originally called BackRub. The company filed for Inc. on September 4, 1998 and booked google.com domain on September 15, 1998.
During its initial years, the search engine celebrated September 7 as its but in 2005, Google changed the date to September 27 to make it coincide with the announcement of the record number of pages that the search engine was indexing.
Google has played a pivotal role in changing the way we use Internet today. The site is now the world's number one search engine.
