Thane, Jul 6: Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray tonight said the Marathi-speaking people should be given preference in recruitment for the Group-D jobs of the Railways.
The local people should get preference in Railway jobs, especially those in Group-D, he said.
Uddhav was speaking at a function organised at Kalyan to mark the 10th anniversary of the Rail Kamgar Sena, a union affiliated to the saffron outfit.
The Sena leader used the occasion to take potshots at Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is touring villages in Uttar Pradesh.
“Rahul had gone to Vidarbha and met Kalavati (a poor farm widow whose plight was highlighted by him in Parliament a few years ago). The event was blown out of proportion by the media. But Kalavati has remained where she was and nothing good has happened to her,” Uddhav maintained.
The young Congress MP should tour Marathwada and Vidarbha and see for himself the state of affairs in these backward regions where debt-ridden farmers had been committing suicide, he stated.
Party leader Sanjay Raut, in his speech, said the Rail Kamgar Sena should further intensify its agitation to get the demands of the workers met.
Later addressing a press conference, Uddhav warned that any Sena corporaror found indulging in illegal practices and corruption would be thrown out of the party.
The Sena leader avoided comment on Lokpal Bill, saying he has not seen draft of the proposed anti-graft legislation.
He reiterated Sena's opposition of the e-voting system and said nothing will be achieved by it. PTI
