Mysore, Mar 29: In a shocking incident, a teenaged girl was allegedly forced by her father to beg as punishment for not taking studies seriously.
The girl's father, Prakash, was arrested under the Juvenile Justice Act and later released on bail yesterday, police said.
The girl studying in the seventh standard invited her father's wrath as she woke up late in the morning. Prakash allegedly drove his daughter in a car to the Chandramouleshwara Swamy temple and asked her to seek alms.
The local people surrounded Prakash and his friend Asha after the girl in school uniform told a passer-by that she was forced to beg as punishment, police said, adding, they were taken to the nearby police station.
The car's windscreen was damaged after people allegedly hurled stones at it.
Earlier, when she had shown disinterest in studies, Prakash reportedly scolded and beat her, police said.
The girl is now in the Child Welfare Committee's custody and has been sent to the Juvenile Girls Home, police said.
She has expressed her desire to go back to her father but procedure suggest that both would be counselled before any action is taken, police said.
The girl's mother passed away when she was in kindergarten.
