Kolkata, May 13: Giant killer and Trinamool Congress nominee in Jadavpur assembly constituency Manish Gupta, who defeated his chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee by over 16,000 votes, today dedicated his win to the party's slogan ‘Ma, Mati, Manush' (Mother, land, people).
“I would like to dedicate this win to Ma, Mati and Manush as I have taken a vow for development,” Gupta, a former chief secretary who worked with Bhattacharjee for a year, told PTI.
“The margin is quite good and this will be utilised for the people's development,” he said.
Gupta, who had a long bureaucratic stint, said he would accept any responsibility the party would ask him to discharge.
“My main task is to develop basic infrastructure of water, health and education in my constituency, and work for peace and development,” Gupta said.
It was Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's first defeat in the Jadavpur constituency which he had represented since 1987.
In 1982, Bhattacharjee had suffered defeat in Cossipore constituency, after which he switched over to Jadavpur. PTI
