India TV's news confirmed, Gautam Gambhir denied BJP poll ticket from East Delhi seat
Gautam Gambhir, the cricketer-turned-politician, is an MP from the East Delhi constituency. He joined the BJP just before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Gambhir won the elections due to Modi-wave against Arvinder Singh Lovely and Atishi.
In a big setback to East Delhi BJP MP Gautam Gambhir just before the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the party has decided to deny him a ticket from his constituency. Gambhir failed to impress the party as an MP. The saffron party showed him the door after assessing his five-year term as an MP. This comes a day after India TV broke the news of the BJP not planning to give the former cricketer a ticket from East Delhi in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.
India TV's Political Editor Devendra Parashar said that Gautam Gambhir has been informed that his ticket has been cancelled. Even after being an MP for five years, no BJP leader was satisfied with his work.
After the ticket was cancelled, Gautam Gambhir on Saturday expressed that he does not want to contest the elections and that he should be released. But due to his failure as an MP, his ticket has been cancelled.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, cricketer Gautam Gambhir had contested as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from the East Delhi constituency. Gambhir won the seat by defeating Congress candidate Arvinder Singh Lovely with a margin of 3,91,222 votes. AAP leader Atishi stood at third with over 17 per cent of the votes in the constituency.
