Executive Director of GAIL (State-run company) KB Singh was arrested by the CBI in connection with the alleged Rs 50 lakh bribery case, officials said Tuesday.
Singh allegedly favoured some contractors in the gas pipeline projects.
Along with Singh, four others have also been arrested, including Director of Vadodara-based Advance Infrastructures Surender Kumar, they said.
According to reports, undue money was paid for favouring the company in two GAIL pipeline projects – Srikakulam to Angul and Vijaypur to Auraiya. The Central probe agency acted on a secret input about the bribe exchange following which, officials launched an operation on Monday and arrested accused. Searches are going on at several locations in Delhi, Noida, and Visakhapatnam in connection with the case, officials said.
"A case was registered against an Executive Director (Projects), Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL), Noida; a private company based at Vadodara and its Director; a CGM, Gas Authority of India(GAIL); a Senior General Manager of MECON Limited; two private persons, resident of Delhi and Jhajjar (Haryana) and unknown others on the allegations that the Executive Director (Projects), GAIL in conspiracy with others was extending undue favour in connection with SAPL (Srikakulam Angul Pipeline) and VAPL (Vijaipur Auraiya Pipeline) Projects of GAIL. It was further alleged that the Director of said private company had arranged the bribe amount of Rs.50 Lakh, through two private persons. It was also alleged that the bribe of Rs.50 Lakh would be delivered to said public servant by the private person," read a statement released by the authority.
CBI laid a trap. After the delivery of the bribe by the said private person to the public servant, both were apprehended. The bribe of Rs.50 Lakh was recovered from ED(Projects). Searches were conducted at the premises of accused including at Delhi, Noida, Visakhapatnam & Vadodara which led to the recovery of incriminating documents and digital pieces of evidence etc.
The arrested accused will be produced before the Competent Court.
