Faizabad (UP), June 23 : A 20-year-old MBA student was kidnapped and later killed by his three friends who had demanded a ransom of Rs ten lakh from his parents, police said today.
The police arrested two of the accused by using electronic surveillance while another is absconding.
The body of Shishir was recovered from an abadoned well in Ayodhya Kotwali police station area on Wednesday after being identified by the arrested friends.
Shishir was the only son of an inter college teacher Anand Pandey and was purusing MBA course in Faizabad Avadh University.
He left his house for the University on Monday morning after promising his mother to be back soon, Ayodhya police circle officer (CO) Rakesh Kumar Pandey said.
But when till late Monday evening, Shishir didn't return, his family members tried to contact him on phone but found his mobile switched off. At midnight, the family of Shishir received a phone call and the caller demanded Rs 10 lakhs for release of their son, he said.
When Shishir left his home on Monday morning for going to the University, he was intercepted by his friends Sunil, Anil and Afroz who took him as hostage in Sunil's house, according to Pandey.
While they were trying to overpower him, Shishir got serious injuries due to which he died. His friends dumped his body in an old well near Shishir's house and covered it with a stone slab, Pandey said.
Sunil used a new mobile phone number and called Shishir's father and demanded Rs 10 lakh for safe release of his son but the police managed to reach the kidnappers by tracking the mobile number from which the Shishir's father was called, said Pandey.
Police arrested Sunil and Afroz while Anil is absconding, Pandey added. PTI
