Mumbai, Jun 7 : Suspected criminals murdered four youths on a trivial issue in Kurar village in suburban Mumbai and dumped their bodies near a drain.
An irate mob blocked the Western Express Highway over the murders on Monday and police had to use force the lift the blockade.
The deceased were identified as Ganesh Karanje, Dinesh Ahire, Chetan Ghude and Bharat Chinchole.
The police, who have so far withheld the names of the accused, said that one of the deceased, Bharat Chinchole, who used to work as a water purifier technician, had
gone to claim pending payment of his work from one of the accused at Kurar village along with his friend Sachin Dhuri.
The accused, who were consuming alcohol, threw glass at Dhuri while accusing him of staring at them. The enraged Dhuri then called up his friends Ganesh Karanje, Dinesh Ahire and Chetan Ghude, who thrashed the accused who then decided to settle score with the four, they said.
According to police, the accused first rang up at Chetan's house on pretext that they wanted to book him for a function as he was a member of the local orchestra group.
As unsuspecting Chetan went to the location the accused told his father over phone, he was thrashed. The suspects then also called up the other victims saying that one of their friends was excessively drunk. Later, they allegedly killed all four of them.
The police said that the culprits slit the throats of the deceased and smashed their heads with stones before dumping their bodies near a drain in Kurar village today.
“We have not arrested anyone, the first information report is registered against unknown accused”, police officials said.
The kin of the victims alleged that they approached Kurar police on Saturday and Sunday but they did not register the case. But it was only today that the police registered a kidnapping case. PTI
