New Delhi: Five new cases of swine flu were reported today in the national capital taking the total figure to 40 so far this year.
Swine flu has claimed three lives till now. Yesterday a 38-year-old woman from Uttam Nagar succumbed to the H1N1 virus at Ram Manohar Lohiya (RML) hospital.
“Till yesterday, the figure stood at 36 but then one case was eliminated from the list as it was not a case of swine flu,” said a senior official from the Health department.
The new cases reported today are of a 45-year-old man (address not confirmed) admitted in Aruna Asaf Ali Government Hospital, 44-year-old man (Mahavir Nagar) undergoing treatment at Sir Ganga Ram hospital, a 16-year-old youth (Prem Nagar) undergoing treatment at RML hospital, 23-year-old woman (Ashok Vihar) being treated at St Stephen's hospital and 35-year-old woman (Siddhartha Extension) treated at Holy Family hospital.
Health secretary S C L Das told PTI today that the incidences are still low this year and the Department is closely monitoring the situation.
He again reviewed the situation and held a meeting with the nodal officer in charge of swine flu Charan Singh, Additional Director, in charge of Public Health.
“We have already completed the orientation programme of the staff of all the 22 designated hospitals including five private hospitals and directed them to follow the standard operating procedure for treatment of swine flu,” Das said.
Also, citizens, have to be vigilant and responsible.
“As soon as people develop symptoms similar to the symptoms of regular flu which includes fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, vomiting and fatigue, they should get themselves tested and checked,” he added.

“We have enough stocks of the medicine but still we are procuring medicines from time to time,” said Singh.
