Srinagar: Five infiltrating guerrillas were Saturday killed by the army in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, an army spokesman said.
"Alert troops detected a group of six heavily-armed terrorists trying to sneak into our side of the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector" in the morning, Col. Brijesh Pandey of the army's Srinagar-based 15 Corps told IANS.
"The intruders were challenged, upon which they fired at the troops triggering an encounter."
"We killed five intruding terrorists in this operation but we have recovered six weapons so far from the site. This indicates that the sixth terrorist is also probably down," the spokesman said.
A search is on in the area, and the identities of the slain terrorists were being established.
On Friday, troops of counter-insurgency Rashtriya Rifles and the special operations group (SOG) of the state police killed five foreign guerrillas of the Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist outfit in Ganderbal district.
