Lucknow: The first Roza will be observed on June 19 Friday, marking the start of the holy month of Ramzan, clerics across the country declared yesterday.

Naib Imam of Lucknow's Aishbagh Eidgah Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali made the announcement in the city.

“The moon could not be sighted in any part of India today. The Markaazi Channd Committee of Lucknow hereby announces that the first Roza will be observed on June 19,” said Mahali.

Delhi's Jama Masjid also made the similar announcement.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday had extended greetings to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

He also conveyed good wishes to the people of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan also expressed hope for peace, tranquillity and harmony in the three countries.
