Jammu/Kanpur/Haridwar, May 9: Three major fire incidents in places as far away as Jammu, Kanpur and Haridwar caused considerable damage to a fruit wholesale market, a power transformer and a hilly forest on Tuesday.
Fire gutted the fruit and vegetable market in Narwal near Jammu, where crores of rupees worth fruits and vegetables were kept for export to Pak-Occupied Kashmir. Fire tenders took nearly three hours to douse the blaze, the cause of which is still not known.
A power transformer worth several lakhs of rupees was destroyed in a fire in Barra locality of Kanpur. Residents staying nearby ran away to save their lives. The fire was caused by a short circuit.
A huge forest fire is raging on the Mansa Devi temple hill and it has already caused severe ecological damage to the Shivalik Hills. The place is located nearly 10 km away from Haridwar. Firefighters are still trying to control the forest fire.
