Srinagar, Feb 12: An epitaph marking the hanging of Parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru has come up next to the grave marked for JKLF founder Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, in the Eidgah area of the city.
The black marble epitaph marking the date of Afzal's hanging, was seen this morning in the graveyard, where dozens of youths including militants killed during the past 20 years have been buried.
The epitaph was placed next to the grave of Bhat who was also hanged inside Tihar Jail on February 11, 1984. “The mortal remains of the martyr of the nation Afzal Guru are lying with Government of India, which are awaited (to be buried here),” the epitaph engraved in Urdu read.
The Eidgah graveyard came up at the beginning of militancy in the Valley. One of the dug up graves has been left empty by the separatists in the hope of getting the mortal remains of Bhat for burial there.
