Howrah: The principal of a private engineering college was allowed to leave his office 28 hours after being confined within chamber by demonstrating students at Uluberia in Howrah district.
Principal Sajal Giri, who had remained seated on his chair since last eveing as about 200 students resorted to a sit-in demonstration outside his chamber, left his office after the agitating students withdrew their stir.
The demonstration was withdrawn following talks between the students, college authorities and the local administration, a senior district official said.
Giri did not talk to waiting newsmen before leaving.
The talks centred round placement issue and the authorities promised to fast track the process and appoint a placement officer, student's spokesman Sayak Chakroborty said.
However, we will see if they kept the promises, the student leader said.
Police were posted outside the campus to keep tab on the developments within campus area.
