Khunti (Jharkhand): Eight people along with two ultras,  were arrested in connection with setting ablaze of six vehicles ahead of the Jharkhand Bandh that had been called by the ultra outfit “People's Liberation Front of India” (PLFI) in protest against the recent police firing in Gumla district early this month.

The kingpin, Birsa Pahan also known as ‘Chaitan' and ‘Mahadeo Munda', both PLFI activists, were among the eight persons detained by the police from Khunti district last night, said, Khunti Deepak Kumar Sharma Sub-divisional Police Officer.

While addressing a press conference today, Sharma said Chaitan, a former Maoist who switched over to PLFI, had been in Assam where he had joined an ultra outfit before he returned to the state recently.

Chaitan, the accused, was the kingpin of the group who had torched six vehicles in Siladon village under extremist-hit Khunti district hours before the Jharkhand bandh called in protest against the killing of two innocent villagers in Gumla district early this month.

Over a dozen PLFI extremists had arrived in the village that set on the fire three JCV machines, two vaccum rollers and a car parked in the premises of school.
