Earthquake in Delhi-NCR: Strong tremors were felt for several seconds in Delhi-NCR region after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Friday night. Tremors were also felt in other districts in north India including Prayagraj, Faridabad, Gurugram, Bhagpat, Varanasi, Sultanpur, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, and Mirzapur.
The earthquake struck at around 11:32 pm on November 3. As of now, no reports of any casualties or damages have been received so far. However, a 6.4 earthquake is considered to be pretty strong. The epicentre of the quake was in Nepal at a depth of 10 km, the National Centre of Seismology (NCS) said.
"Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.4, Occurred on 03-11-2023, 23:32:54 IST, Lat: 28.84 & Long: 82.19, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Nepal," NCS posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Apart from Delhi-NCR, strong tremors were also felt in Bihar. As people felt earthquake tremors in Patna, they rushed out of their homes. The tremors went around for 15-20 seconds.
"I was watching TV and felt like little dizzy all of a sudden... then I saw on the TV about earthquake and suddenly I came out of my home," said Tushar, a resident of Noida.
A resident of Patna Arun Kumar, who felt tremors, said, "I was lying on the bed and the bed started vibrating. We understood it was an earthquake."
In Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur, tremors were felt for two times for several seconds. Some people have also shared videos of ceiling fans, chandeliers swinging due to tremors. Take a look.
"The tremors were felt for quite some time as we were watching television and enjoying the weekend," said Inderjit Singh, a resident of Gurugram.
Gopal, a resident of Ghaziabad, said the tremors were felt for more than 15 seconds. "I could also hear the window panes rattling".
"The tremors felt really strong. The feeling was scary," said Pratyush Singh, a resident of a group housing society in Sector 76 Noida.
"I first thought the tremors were because of a passing vehicle, but soon saw the ceiling fan shaking. It went on for a while," said Rupesh Upadhyay, a resident of a high-rise apartment in Noida.
This is the third time in a month that strong quakes have struck Nepal.
Whenever an earthquake strikes any region, people are advised to come out in open and not venture back to their homes, offices or building for atleast half-an-hour due to the possibilities of aftershocks.
