New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director, Mangu Singh, was today conferred honorary doctorate by a private university in recognition for his outstanding work and leadership in the field of Metro technology in the country.
Singh was conferred the honour during a convocation ceremony at Noida by Amity University, Uttar Pradesh. “The varsity appreciated the inspirational leadership of Singh and commended his pioneering strategies which have been fundamental to the rapid growth and unprecedented success of DMRC,” a DMRC statement said.
Singh, who is the President of Tunnelling Association of India (TAI), has contributed in the project implementation of Metro in Delhi and Kolkata and has been responsible for bringing revolutionary changes in the execution of large Metro engineering projects within deadlines and budget and is considered the foremost tunnelling expert, it said.
The DMRC MD is known for bringing in new technologies and innovative methods of Metro construction and has also played a fundamental role in using Shield Tunnel Boring Machines and introducing New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) for the first time in the country.
Singh is also heading the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects of Delhi Metro, the only such successful project in the Railway Transportation sector in the world, the statement said.
He has been instrumental in preparing the Master Plan and Detailed Project Reports for Metro system in other cities of the country like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kochi, Jaipur, Ludhiana and Ahmedabad.
