New Delhi: Supreme Court today issued notice to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on petition filed by Karnataka Govt against her acquittal in disproportionate Asset case.
An apex court bench headed by Justice P.C Ghose also issued notice returnable in eight weeks on the petition by DMK leader K. Anbazhagan and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, both challenging Karnataka High Court verdict acquitting Jayalalithaa.
The Karnataka government has sought reversal of the order of the Karnataka High Court which acquitted the Tamil Nadu Chief Miniter and her aides, Sasikala Natrajan, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran.
Jayalalithaa was convicted by the Bengaluru special judge and sentenced to four years imprisonment in the Rs 66.65 crore wealth disproportionate to known sources of her income when she was chief minister from 1991-95 but the Karnataka High Court, allowing her appeal, acquitted her of all charges.
