Bangalore, Apr 24 : Gripped by grief, tearful devotees chanted prayers at ‘Brindavan', Sathya Sai Baba's ashram at Whitefield on the outskirts of the city after the news of the spiritual leader's death reached here today.
They performed pooja in front of a huge portrait of Sai Baba and decorated the chair on which he used to sit and give darshan to devotees.
In some parts of the city, devotees took out a procession carrying portraits of Sai Baba and chanted slogans like “Baba is not with us physically. But he remains with us forever”.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and Governor H R Bhardwaj condoled Sai Baba's death.
Yeddyurappa, a staunch devotee of Sai Baba, described the spiritual leader as a “noble soul” who sacrificed his entire life for the good of human beings.
He said he would leave for Puttaparthi today to pay his respects to Sai Baba.
Bhardwaj described Sai Baba as a “great humanitarian.” “The void caused by Sai Baba' death can never be filled. He was a great humanitarian,” he said in his condolence message.
State Transport Minister R Ashok announced that the State Road Transport Corporation would ply buses from across Karnataka to Puttaparthi to enable devotees have dharshan of their spiritual guru. PTI
