New Delhi, Sep 14: A departmental inquiry has been initiated against the former Director General of Doordarshan Aruna Sharma over the award of a contract for production and coverage of CWG games by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
Sources said “a departmental inquiry had been initiated top probe the former DG Doordarshan after the Shunglu committee named her along with former Prasar Bharati chief B S Lalli.
While a CBI case had been registered against Lalli after the Shunglu committee report, no action was taken against Sharma.
Sources said Sharma had earlier offered arguments in her defence to the ministry and claimed she was only implementing decisions that had got the approval of the oversight committee.
Sources in the I & B ministry said the role of the oversight committee was also being reviewed and amendments would be made in the Prasar Bharati Act.
A Group of Ministers had already held a meeting to discuss the changes that can be made to the structure of Prasar Bharati, the, sources said.
The panel, headed by the former Comptroller and Auditor-General, V.K. Shunglu, had submitted the 236-page interim report to the government in February this month.
The Shunglu committee report had indicted Lalli and Sharma of benefiting private broadcasting firms during the Commonwealth Games 2010 that resulted in a loss of Rs 135 crore.
Following the report, the government had ordered the then Doordarshan Director General Aruna Sharma to revert to her parent cadre and had suspended Lalli.
Sharma is at present posted in Bhopal in her home cadre state of Madhya Pradesh. PTI
