Shillong: An alert was sounded today in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district after 18 people tested positive for dengue.
West Garo Hills district deputy commissioner Pravin Bakshi told PTI that the 18 people were at Tura civil hospital and the general alert was sounded in the wake of increasing number of patients who were admitted at the hospital with the disease.
According to the district administrator alert had been sounded in some areas of Tura town, after two persons were admitted at the hospital with the disease.
A state-level team has been called in to prevent the disease from spreading to other areas of the Garo Hills region, Bakshi said adding a team of doctors and laboratory technicians from ntegrated Disease Surveillance Project of the state government will arrive at Tura on Monday.
Last year, dengue had claimed two lives and 11 cases were detected.
