New Delhi:  Delhi on Tuesday reduced by almost 80 percent sewer and water development charges collected by the Delhi Jal Board, an official statement said.

Sewer development charges have been reduced from Rs.494 per square metre to Rs.100 per square metre.

Water development charges have also been reduced from Rs.440 per square metre to Rs.100 per square metre.

The statement said that the new charges would be applicable to domestic and mixed land use consumers up to the plot size of 200 square metres.

This decision will benefit lakhs of people living in about 1,700 unauthorised colonies across the city, statement said.

He also directed the Delhi Jal Board to organise campaigns to make people aware of the new rates.

Piped-water supply is currently available in 917 unauthorised colonies and sewerage lines are laid in 152 colonies. The residents of these colonies can avail of the facilities immediately.
