New Delhi: Flights were diverted due to bad weather after rain lashed the national capital and its adjoining areas Saturday leading to clogged roads and traffic snarls.

"Around nine flights were diverted due to bad weather," an official of the Indira Gandhi International Airport here told IANS.

The rain, which lasted for close to an hour, led to clogged roads in many areas, including GTB Nagar, Civil lines, Yusuf Sarai, Green Park, Lajpat  Nagar, Aurobindo Marg, R.K. Puram, Saket, Malviya Nagar and Anand Prabat.

"The rain in Delhi is always welcome, but the accompanying traffic jams ruin the fun," Kapil Verma, a Delhi University  student, told IANS.

"I had to do so much work today, but I was stuck for over 45 minutes for a four km ride," Renuka Rai, a resident of  Lajpat Nagar, told IANS.

The morning was sunny with a minimum temperature of 28.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average.

The Met Office had forecast light rainfall and thundershowers in some parts of the city.

Friday was warm with the maximum temperature settling at 37.7 degrees Celsius,  four notches above the season's average. The minimum temperature was 28.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average
