Weather updates: The Indian Army has mobilised its resources in response to recent natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh. Following cloudbursts and small-scale landslides in various locations, the districts of Shimla and Mandi have been significantly affected.
Weather updates: In the wake of heavy rains and cloudbursts in the state of Himachal Pradesh, the Indian Army, state administration, fire services, NDRF, and SDRF have deployed teams to carry out rescue operations. As many as eight teams from different departments are coordinating to conduct rescue operations in the state. Bailey Bridges have been built to reduce the inconvenience faced by the affected people. Notably, River Beas flows furiously in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu as the state continues to receive heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Himachal CM Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu convened an emergency meeting of senior officers of the state government to review the situation that had arisen due to five cloud bursts and heavy rains in different parts of the state.

8 killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh
Eight people were killed in rain-related incidents in the last 24 hours, the state relief commissioner's office said here on Thursday. Currently, five districts (out of 75) -- Ballia, Lakhimpur Kheri, Farrukhabad, Sitapur, Bahraich and are affected by floods in the state. Relief and rescue operations are underway, it said. Three deaths were reported in Chitrakoot, while one each in Kaushambi, Farrukhabad, Agra, Sonbhadra and Jalaun, it said. These deaths are related to lightning, drowning and snake bites. The deaths were reported in the 24-hour period between 6 pm on Wednesday and Thursday. As per a report of the irrigation department, Ganga is flowing above danger mark in Kachla bridge in Budaun, the relief commissioner's office said.

14 killed in heavy rains in Uttarakhand; Kedarnath Yatra halted
Fourteen people died and 10 more were injured in heavy overnight rains that triggered flooding and a house collapse as several rivers swelled in Uttarakhand, officials said on Thursday. Keeping in mind the safety of devotees undertaking the Kedarnath Yatra, authorities have decided to suspend the pilgrimage for the time being due to landslides at many places. The officials said the trek route remains blocked by boulders at Ghoraparav, Lincholi, Badi Lincholi and Bhimbali. According to information received from the State Emergency Operation Centre here, a child was swept away in a flooded drain in Nainitial's Haldwani. It said a search was on to find him.

Delhi rain: Two die of electrocution in separate incidents
A 12-year-old boy died of electrocution after coming in contact with a live wire in southwest Delhi's Bindapur area, police said on Thursday. Mudit was returning home from a tuition class on Wednesday when the incident occurred, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Kumar Singh said. The boy was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead, he said.

Four people were killed and about 50 missing following several incidents of cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh where rains washed away many houses, bridges and roads, officials said on Thursday. The state emergency operation centre said the cloudbursts took place in Nirmand, Sainj and Malana areas in Kullu, Padhar in Mandi and Rampur in Shimla districts. Himachal Pradesh: MeT office issues red alert of heavy rains in three districts today
The meteorological office here has issued a "red alert" of heavy to extremely heavy rain along with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in three districts of Kangra, Kullu and Mandi on Thursday. It also warned of landslides, mudslides and land sinking, besides disruptions of essential services like water and electricity, communications and related services, damage to fruit and standing crops and risk to vulnerable structures and 'kutcha' houses due to strong winds and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Four people were killed and about 50 went missing following several incidents of cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh where rains washed away many houses, bridges and roads on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. Moderate flash flood threat is likely in isolated parts of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Sirmaur and Shimla districts in the next six hours, the MeT office said.

Six weather stations across Delhi recorded over 100 mm of rain in a single day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday, categorising it as an "extremely intense spell". During a press conference, Director General of Meteorology, IMD, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, clarified that the intense rain witnessed in the city was not a cloudburst. According to the IMD, the city's primary weather station, Safdarjung, recorded 107 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Other stations, which also received significant rainfall, included Mayur Vihar (147 mm), Najafgarh and Ridge (113 mm), Lodi Road (106 mm) and Delhi University (104 mm), it said. In contrast, other stations like Pusa recorded 86 mm, Aaya Nagar (71 mm) and the Palam observatory (68.3 mm) of rain, as per the IMD data.

Gurugram rain: Three electrocuted near Iffco Chowk Metro station
Three persons died due to electrocution in Gurugram during heavy rainfall on Wednesday night, the police said on Thursday. The incident occurred when the three pedestrians came in contact with an open electric wire lying along the footpath near the Iffco Chowk Metro station. The deceased have been identified as Divesh, Jaipal, and Wasi Uzzama. Their family members have alleged negligence by the electricity department, police, and the administration. They have also sought compensation and legal action against those responsible for the tragic mishap. Jaipal from Mahendragarh district worked as a driver with a Korean company, while Divesh and Wasi Uzzama were both from Uttar Pradesh. The latter worked as a quality engineer with a private firm in Manesar. Gurugram and Delhi-NCR were battered by heavy rain that started in the evening on Wednesday and continued till late at night at many places. Pedestrians had to wade through knee-deep water at many places, even on the Expressway.

Uttarakhand: Heavy rainfall leaves 12 people dead
Twelve people, including three of a family, were killed and six injured in heavy overnight rains in various parts of Uttarakhand that triggered many incidents of house collapse, flooding and rise in water levels of several rivers, officials said on Thursday. Most parts of the state did not receive fresh rains till Thursday afternoon. Haridwar district reported six deaths, Tehri three, Dehradun two and Chamoli one. Two persons one each in Haldwani and Chamoli are still missing, the Disaster Control Room here said. Two people were swept away by the waters of an overflowing seasonal canal near the Ordnance Factory in Raipur area of Dehradun, Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh said. Bodies of both of them have been recovered, he said. They have been identified as Sundar Singh and Arjun Singh Rana, the SSP said.

Himachal cloudburst: Rahul Gandhi speaks with CM Sukhu to take stock of situation
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday condoled the loss of lives in the cloudburst incidents in Himachal Pradesh, and said that he had spoken with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to take stock of the "difficult situation". "The news of the death and disappearance of many people due to cloudburst and heavy rainfall in Shimla, Mandi and Kullu is extremely saddening," Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X.
"I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families in this difficult time,"the former Congress chief said in a post in Hindi on X.
Gandhi said he had taken stock of this difficult situation by talking to Sukhu. "He (Sukhu) informed that he himself is visiting these sites of incidents and during this time, the NDRF, the SDRF and the state administration are continuously involved with commitment in relief and rescue operations in this hour of crisis," Gandhi said.
He hoped that all the missing people would be found as soon as possible.

More rains expected in Delhi
More rains are expected in Delhi on Thursday, the meteorological department has forecast, a day after heavy showers inundated large parts of the city, choking key stretches with unending traffic and leaving people stranded as roads resembled rivers.
The Salwan station in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area recorded 147.5 mm rainfall from 8.30 am on Wednesday till 7.15 am on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Najafgarh station recorded 113 mm rainfall and the Lodhi Road, Delhi University and Safdarjung observatories recorded 107.5 mm, 104.5 mm, and 105.6 mm rainfall respectively, it said.
