New Delhi: Continuing with its crackdown, the Trade and Taxes Department of Delhi government today cancelled registrations of 32 firms for alleged wrongdoings in filing of Value Added Tax returns.

Officials in Tax department said some of the 32 firms were found to be bogus. The total turnover of the firms against whom action has been taken was estimated at Rs 644 crore for the year 2013-14.

Trade and Taxes Commissioner Sanjiv Khirwar said VAT inspectors were directed to detect the chain of sale of bogus dealers and take strict action as per the provisions of DVAT Act, 2004.

The department intensified enforcement activities last week to ensure compliance with various provisions of Delhi Value Added Tax Act, 2005.

The focus of the enforcement team was on transporters who are in the business of transportation of goods.

Khirwar said 54 goods vehicles containing items such as purchun, motor spare parts, readymade garments have been detained from various roads of Delhi.  Six vehicles carrying turmeric from Erode in Tamil Nadu were also detained.
