New Delhi: Delhi Congress today sought Lt Governor Najeeb Jung's intervention in ensuring improvement in power and water supply in the city.

DPCC Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely, led a delegation of senior Delhi Congress leaders and handed over a memorandum demanding better water and power supplies.  The delegation told Jung that majority of areas in the city are reeling under water shortage and long load-shedding and urged him to take immediate action to provide relief to affected people.

“We have asked the LG to haul up the power companies as supply of power has been very poor. If the power distribution companies refuse to comply with government directive, then action should be taken against them.

“We will come out to the streets against the central government and Power companies and even the LG if needed,” Lovely said.

Areas across the city have been facing long power cuts in the last couple of months. Many areas in West and East Delhi have been facing acute water shortage.  Lovely said the delegation also requested Jung to intervene and stop sealing of the household industries in various areas. The sealing drive has been initiated by the municipal corporations.

DPCC chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma also took a pot shot at Aam Aadmi Party accusing it of misleading people by promising to cut tariff by 50 per cent.  The AAP government had offered subsidy to those whose consumption did not cross 400 units monthly. The scheme, however, had come to an end on March 31.  He said if the power and water supplies do not improve, then Congress will start an agitation.

On sealing drive by the municipal bodies, he said there was a need to protect the interests of those who are running small household production units.

Sharma said LG has assured the delegation that he will intervene and instruct the commissioners of the municipal corporations to issue licenses to these units.
