New Delhi, Apr 25: A pointed iron rod on a gate pierced the knee of a 13-year-old boy Iqrar on Tuesday trigerring a major rescue effort by firemen in Delhi's Sultanpuri.
Iqrar, a resident of Nangloi, was returning home from near the railway track towards Friends Enclave in Sultanpuri, when he found the iron gate closed.
Iqrar tried to jump over the gate and in the process, he lost his balance and the pointed end of the iron rod pierced his knee.
As the boy started screaming, people came to the spot and called the fire brigade and CATS ambulance.
The firemen then began to cut the iron grill from both ends, and all this while the boy continued to scream.
A man took him up his shoulder, while two others held his hands as the firemen went on with their job.
The boy was then taken with the cut iron grill to Bhagvan Mahavir Hospital, where he was rushed to the operation theatre.
After an hour-long operation, the iron rod was taken out from his knee, and the boy is not out of danger, doctors said.
