Hyderabad: The Rayagada-Vijaywada fast passenger train on Saturday mowed down 10 passengers to death at Vizianagaram station, while they were boarding the 3352 Allepey-Dhanbad Express.
Railway sources said, some passengers on Allepey-Dhanbad Express pulled the alarm chain and made the express train stop at Gotlam outer signal, and several passengers began alighting on the rail tracks.
Suddenly, the Raigada-Vijaywada fast passenger train came from the opposite rail track and mowed down the passengers.
Andhra Pradesh chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed shock and anguish over the incident that occurred near Gajularega rail track.
The chief minister has asked District Collector, SP, senior Police, Fire and emergency officials over phone from Bengaluru to rush to the spot and personally supervise rescue and relief operations immediately.
The chief minsiter asked them to provide best treatment to the injured.
He extended deep condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families.
