In a sensational twist to the suspected honour killing case, a college student, who was reportedly killed by the brother of his girlfriend, and her beloved landed at a police station in Muzaffarnagar (UP) on Saturday evening.
Catching the cops off-guard, both Ajit Saini, a student of Business Administration, and his girlfriend Anshu, who was missing, surfaced at the police station, SP Rajiv Malhotra told PTI.
The two were being interrogated at the police station, he said.
A body with slit throat was found in New Mandi area here yesterday and was identified as that of Saini by his family.
On the basis of a complaint filed by the boy's family, the girl's father Narendra Tomar and her brother Anuj were arrested by police yesterday.
During interrogation, Anuj had confessed to have killed Ajit, who was in his early '20s, for "tarnishing his family's image", the SP claimed.
According to Anuj, his sister had eloped several times with Ajit despite repeated warnings by the family.
The girl, also in her early '20s, was reportedly missing for the few days.
The couple had eloped two months back after the girl's family opposed their relationship.
After assurances from the family that they would solemnise their marriage, the duo returned home on April 19. PTI
