New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Saturday wrote to Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi seeking information about the number of complaints of crime against women.

In the letter, DCW chief Swati Maliwal sought information on the number of complaints, including that of rape and molestation in the city, especially in the Anand Parbat area.

A young girl, Meenkashi, 19, was killed after she objected to a man who allegedly abused her.

"It is the mandate of the DCW to monitor the safety, security and interest of women in Delhi. In light of Meenakshi murder case and the increasing rate of crime against women in the state, we wish to undertake a study on women safety in Delhi and come up with recommendations for the central government, state government and Delhi police," she wrote in her letter.

"We request you (Bassi) to provide the details of number of complaints of crime against women in the city, especially in the Anand Parbat area and if they got the police protection by Delhi Police," she wrote.

She also asked for cases in which FIRs were registered and sought the details of unsafe areas for women.

She has demanded the list of police stations in which the highest number of complaints of crime against women were reported in 2014-15.

In addition, Maliwal wanted to know the strength of the police force in Delhi and the number of women in it.

"This comes in the wake of the deteriorating law and order situation in the city," a DCW official told IANS.

Maliwal took charge as the head of the commission on July 28.
